If we could work on everything at once, I think we could finish in less than a month, but… With all the accumulated work happening simultaneously and lots of small tasks piling up, progress is slow.
I’m going to tackle them one by one. Today we’re overhauling the front brake caliper.
Everything is suspicious—the Z1R is truly the old bike baptism.
I quickly disassembled it. The brake pads have completely absorbed the oil, so they’re done for.
Rarely encountered poor condition
It’s probably still in its original condition from back then. If aging has value, it must be quite something…
It’s been a while since I’ve seen condition this bad.
The oil seal condition is extremely poor, crumbling and peeling away. Since there’s no end to it, we’re reusing the piston this time.
Well, certainly “It won’t run without revving, the brakes don’t work, all the controls are heavy, it’s not rideable” With this condition, that’s only natural.

Cleaning with a micro router and brush &Without wet blasting you can’t finish it this cleanly.
For shop owners who want to keep running a motorcycle shop a bit longer I really think you should invest in wet blasting.
The nipple looks new, so I’ll reuse it… The shape and length are subtly different. It feels wrong, so I decided not to use it.
And that’s how we finished the caliper overhaul!
Now you should be able to brake confidently and firmly. *I’m still thinking about what to do with the brake master…
Next, let’s replace the wheel bearings and tires. Since I can only make slow progress, please bear with me a bit longer.
