Vehicle: Kawasaki KZ900
Symptoms: Play in handlebar operation, front movement feels concerning
Work:
Stem Bearings: Disassembled and cleaned, filled with fresh grease generously. Optimized tightening torque (this is the key!).
Front Fork: Drained degraded oil and replaced with fresh oil to specification. Also replaced the oil seal

This aftermarket tapered roller bearing wasn’t designed with removal from the frame in mind at all. If you need to remove it, the only option is to weld a bridge or bolt and tap it out.
I was thinking about preparing a bolt to pull it out, but it’s “surprisingly clean” *though I did give it a light scotch. If it’s not bad, there’s no need to force removal. That’s because “the possibility of the press fit loosening is not zero.”
The same goes for wheel bearings. Material degradation, wear from removal and installation, and putting zero stress on the material side—swapping it out “smoothly” is difficult without extreme temperature differences.
So I’ll clean it and reuse it (*´ω｀*)
While we’re at the fork oil change… let’s also do the oil seal
There’s a slight halo effect visible, so it’s leaking. While we have it off, let’s replace the oil seal. *I ordered it today, so it’s on hold.
The clutch release is also lubricated.
Can you use Z1/Z2 fork cover guides?
The outer cover area is completely different (*´ω｀*) It’s been subtly changed.
Since it’s okay to grind it, I’ll remove material from both sides.
Finished with Dad’s belt sander and the kid’s belt sander ×2 If we drop about 5mm each, it’ll be usable. When the plated parts shine, it really feels good.
I’ve never seen this product before and I’m installing it for the first time. With the vintage bike boom, Marshall must be selling well.
That’s the installation complete. I always think motorcycle product instructions are hard to understand… If the parts arrive tomorrow, it should be able to stand (*´ω｀*)

Reviving the Handling: KZ900 Stem Bearing & Fork Maintenance.
Work: Performed a full service on the front suspension and steering. Details:
Stem Bearings: Disassembled, cleaned, and re-greased the steering stem bearings. Adjusted the preload to ensure smooth movement without play.
Fork Oil: Drained the old, dirty oil and refilled with fresh fork fluid. Result: The heavy and notched steering feel is gone. The bike now handles lightly and predictably, just as it should.
