Kawasaki ZRX1200: Fork Oil and “While We’re At It” Seal Replacement!
Vehicle: Kawasaki ZRX1200. Topic: Front suspension preventative maintenance. Details: A heavy, powerful naked bike like the ZRX1200 relies heavily on healthy suspension. We are performing a front fork oil change today. The old oil came out pitch black and full of metallic sludge. As a professional mechanic rule of thumb: if you are already doing the labor of removing and draining the forks, you should replace the rubber oil seals “while you’re at it.” Rubber hardens over time, and preventing a future leak now saves doing the exact same labor twice. After a thorough cleaning, we installed fresh seals, poured in new fork oil, and set the correct oil level. Verdict: The damping feel is completely restored. Proper suspension maintenance transforms the handling of the bike, making cornering incredibly smooth and stable!
